The fox of Inari shrines, flat-packed. Four kitsune papercraft kits — a slender half-mask with a sakura crest, a full-face Kitsune no Agito, the flame-browed Enbiyakkomen, and a straightforward fox mask that a child can finish in an afternoon.

Papercraft Kit FAQ

What is the difference between a paper kitsune kit and a handmade fox mask?

The kits here are paper, flat-packed, and you assemble them yourself; they are designed by Hayashi Takeo. Our handmade kitsune masks are finished pieces made by Komendo and shipped ready to wear. If you would rather not build one, see the handmade kitsune masks.

Do I need scissors or a craft knife?

No. Every part arrives pre-cut. The kit includes the paper parts and an elastic cord, with an illustrated assembly guide. You supply glue, which is not included.

Is the assembly guide in English?

The guide is illustrated, and the instructions are written in Japanese. The drawings show the order of assembly.

Can I paint the kit?

Yes. Kits arrive in a single flat colour and are made to be finished as you like — painted, coated or left plain. Where our photographs show a customised piece, that is for inspiration: the kit itself arrives unpainted.

How soon does a kit ship?

Kits we have in stock ship from our Tokyo shop in our weekend processing, right after your order. If a kit is out of stock it is made fresh by Hayashi Takeo and ships in about two weeks. Shipping is included in the price and tracked. For orders to the United States we prepay U.S. import duties before shipping, so there is nothing to pay on delivery; elsewhere any duties are billed to the recipient.
